Caravanning Tips Here are a few tips to help newcomers to Touring Caravans: -Before buying a caravan, ensure that it is not too heavy for the car which will tow it- The weight of the caravan including items loaded into it shouldn't be more than 85% of the car's kerbweight (this can be found from the car's handbook). Public weighbridges can be used to weigh your caravan. -When on the road, keep heavy items low down and over the caravan's axle. -Use towing mirrors if necessary, so you can see the road behind and the caravan sides. -Consider taking a course in towing the caravan. -It's a good idea where possible to stay at a site fairly near home for your first trip in your new caravan. If you have any big problems, or have forgotten any items, it can make the whole experience less stressful. Also, you will not be setting up on site while you are tired. -Visit the website of The Camping And Caravanning Club for much more useful information on sites, technical info, safety, to book a site or to join the club (highly recommended as their sites are of a high standard).
